The War To End All Wars - Live Performance Review
courtesy of Ian Haughey for Audlem Online

"A great and very thought provoking performance"
- Ian Haughey

"There are many stories of the Great War's conflicts to tell, and Saturday night's performance opened a number of gateways for the audience to discover the personal war stories: poetry, artists, propaganda, with some valuable resources from audio books to the war graves of Belgium."

So The War to End All Wars, and one man's (boy's) view as an 18 year old aboard HMS Broadsword 8000 miles from home in the South Atlantic in 1982, asks what lessons have been learnt in 100 years.

Just one of the many varied and interesting perspectives generated by Darren John Poyzer's insight in to his song writing.

Performed at Audlem's world famous Scout & Guide Hall Cafe Theatre on Saturday, this was an engaging 'presentation' that formed the basis of Poyzer's inspiration for his songs, the theatre of war, and the love that is often forgotten on all sides of the conflict, the unheard stories of those that fall between the media, the propaganda and the reality of bloody war zones.

For many who have had the privalage to see Poyzer performing live in festivals and bars around the UK, familiar songs took on different meanings, the words and feelings that had been inspired by driven emotion: Sunday Morning Footballer, Men and machines, Over the Moon and Rewarded for Violence to some rarely aired songs from this prolific writer.

There are many stories of the Great War's conflicts to tell, and Saturday night's performance opened a number of gateways for the audience to discover the personal war stories: poetry, artists, propaganda, with some valuable resources from audio books to the war graves of Belgium.

The Q&A at the end prompted some real thought and unearthed more stories. For Poyzer this next four years provides the opportunity to celebrate Armistice Day in 2018 learning the lessons of the War to End all Wars.

A thought provoking evening, that will never be the same twice, catch it if you can.
